Question of the Day
What personality trait is do you most value in others?
For me, it is trust. I cannot be friends with anyone I cannot trust. There are a million ways to earn trust, and a million ways to break it. I think it is way easier to break it than to earn it. There was a time that I gave people too many chances to regain my trust if they broke it, but as I’ve aged, I’ve gained some wisdom around trust, and realize that someone who is willing to break your trust once, will be willing to do it again. If people don’t honor themselves enough to tell the truth, chances are they won’t honor you.
The fact is you can never really get to know someone who doesn’t earn your trust. You can never be safe. You can never let down your guard. While other traits are important to me, such as kindness, generosity, being considerate, none of those matter if someone is not trustworthy. As I get older, the less I can tolerate untrustworthy people.
So tell me what trait has the most value to you. Or write a blog and link it back here so others can read your thoughts.
As ever, love and light
Deb, you hit the nail on the head here:
“and realize that someone who is willing to break your trust once, will be willing to do it again. If people don’t honor themselves enough to tell the truth, chances are they won’t honor you.”
I value trust most in a person as well–secondly, loyalty. This is a great post!
Thanks tRe! Loyalty is important too! And honor!
You’re most welcome and you’re quite right!
You make excellent points about trust. It’s gotta be in my top five. The first thing that popped into my head when I read this question was honesty which is close to trust. But kindness is also very important to me. It’s not always easy to have honesty and kindness together, but when a person’s heart is in the right place, they can co-exist. Maybe honesty plus kindness equals trust?
Maybe! I definitely don’t think anyone can be trustworthy if they aren’t willing to be honest I think honor is in there too. Have you seen Brene Brown’s talk, The Anatomy of Trust? She breaks it down really well. But then, she’s brilliant, lol. One of my favorite teachers.
I don’t think I’ve seen that one. Will look it up. She is a big help. I’m so glad we’ve found trust worthy people.
Boy, that’s for sure. What a difference it’s made, to be able to trust fully. And yes if you google that title the video will come ion I think it’s about 15 min long. She did it for Oprah’s SupetSoul Sessions.
For me…Patience. All else arrives eventually….especially trust and gratitude.
