Haiku No. 436: Dolphin Welcome

Rocking on the sea

Lulls our souls to peaceful rest

Dolphins play nearby

By Deborah E. Dayen

This morning Dan came to the boat early, to address an issue with the air conditioning. As he sat in the cockpit he heard a dolphin blow, not knowing what it was. He heard it again minutes later, and saw the dolphin. He dived under our bow, crossing underneath about 3 or 4 times. Then he swam down the fairway between docks and headed back out to the bay.

Dan laughs at me, but how can I not take that as a greeting? Kind of like “welcome to the neighborhood” thing. Ours was the only boat he frolicked near, and once he knew Dan had seen him, he swam away.

Awesome. Just awesome.
