Tropical Midnight

tropical midnight

Indigo night sky

White clouds float by

As palms hang silently in the balance

And pine tree reach for the sky without a sound

The live oaks reach across the grassy yards

As the barely imperceptible breeze

Flutters a solitary leaf.

The stars peek out occasionally

From behind the white puffs of ethereal mist

The crickets chip steadily

And in the distance a peacock calls to it’s mate

The world seems at peace

At least for this moment

Sitting in the stillness,

In the deep midnight blue of a tropical summer night

I feel the heat around me like a lover’s embrace

As I lower my eyes, then close them gently

Repeating as ever, “I am. I am.”
