The End of the Road

End of the road

The road just ended
The warning signs were there
Ignored by a blind eye
In hopes they weren’t true

Cracks in the pavement
Were full of crumbled dust.
The road was uncared for.
Despite our best efforts
We tripped and stumbled
And fell

The promise that it held
In the beginning
Was false
Believed by fools and strangers

Required now to find
A new trail in the wilderness.
Summon all the courage
That lies within you
Pray that you will meet
A like-minded pilgrim on the path
Who will share their truth with you.

But for now
Sit it the grass
On the edge of the road
Smell the wildflowers
Feel the sun on your face
And rest.
