The moon, not quite full,
Missing a sliver of light.
Making promises.
Love did that to me
Once, or twice. Holding back small bits
Promising they’d come.
They never did come,
You know. Prevarication,
Practiced perfectly.
The moon, however,
Doesn’t lie. The missing piece
Will come tomorrow.

Oh, to love is sweet
tender moments, tender thoughts
connecting two hearts.
No one should ever
Assume my complicity
In a lie they tell.
They can assume, though
That I will be complicit
In an honest truth.
Cold drink in my glass
Welcome break from the frenzy
Of life, rearranged.
The world in stillness
Around me. All life in wait
For day to begin.
The job seems too big
This morning. Worry creeps in.
Will I get it done?
The goal is distant,
The road, long. Time shrinks, quickly.
Yet, there is no choice.
My feet must be sure,
My heart strong, and my mind clear.
One step at a time.
I sit in silence,
In early morning hours, breathe.
All will be complete.
Spiraling inward
From the outer edge of life
Go deep, discover.
What will you find there?
The secret? There’s no secret.
Love is the answer.
