My writer’s group was given the following prompt by one of our members. There are 3 questions, which I have endeavored to answer here. Are you a fallen Catholic (or any other religion)? Was there a particular event that caused your “fall”? Did you then join a different church, or steer away from any church? … Continue reading

A Visit
My son has come and gone. It was wonderful to have him here for 5 days. We mostly ate a lot of good food, and relaxed at the beach, at the pool, and talked and watched movies. It was relaxing for both of us, as we easily slipped into our old habits of a lifetime, … Continue reading
Haiku No. 444: Across Miles

Ruminations
My son has been here for a few days. Trying to sort through my emotions this morning, while it’s quiet, I realize there is only one. It is the bond of love we share and always have. I’ve always known, believed, that no one can ever break that between us. Mother and child, eternal. There … Continue reading
Sanctified Love

Hummingbird painting by Rocket Worley, photographed by Tremaine L. Loadholt
I am waiting on a
storm that only tempts me
with its pressure–
stalling on its landing.
I see the pearls of your eyes
glean in the sunlight,
your hummingbird love covers
me, draping me in buzzing
wings, my guardian angel,
ready to defeat the eye.
every hurricane season, I feel you
caress my untouched breasts,
beasts of past lives
saunter in, cackling at my
distorted view of us.
I am Moses rising,
my staff thrown into
the pathway of raging water,
splitting it in two.
it is there, in the midst
of Biblical anecdotes and parables
where I find a sanctified love,
one that harbors the weight
of your trembling hands.
I want more of you.
I need more of you.
you stand at the brink
of falling, my heart as a jewel
tied to your back.
you carry…

Local Red Tide Update, and Other Things
It’s been a busy few days. We had to go to check on my sister’s house out on the island. We had our boat hauled and taken to a place that we feel pretty sure about fixing it correctly. Had my writers group over last Sunday. My son is coming on Wednesday night, so I’ve … Continue reading
What Will Be (A Poem)
I originally wrote this before I moved to Florida. The door in the picture is my door. I am so happy that the man I was waiting for (and who was waiting for me!) made this prophesy come true. I’m a lucky girl!

Today, I imagined
That someone came up the steps
to the orange door
To my bright yellow bungalow.
He was following behind me,
And I opened the door,
I turned to smile at him
And took his hand
And led him inside.
I’m not telling any more about that,
(She says, with a wink and a smile).
But it was nice.
It was fresh,
And sweet,
And loving
And fun.
There were no games.
There was no pain.
There was steamy breath
In the air conditioned room.
The palm fronds swept against the porch
And a tropical wind blew across the deck.
I didn’t think about my past.
I didn’t think about my future.
I was happy
In the moment
With this man who was no longer
A stranger to me.
He’s waiting for me there.
He may not know it, yet,
But sure enough,
He’ll tell me that he…

In The Path of the Hurricane
It was just about this time last year when Hurricane Irma blew by Tampa. It made a hard right just south of here, and went off to our east, sparing us the worst. Still, it was a Cat 2 hurricane here, and I was out of power for 8 days. The memory is still fresh. … Continue reading
Question of the Day: To Trust, or Not To Trust
Question of the day To trust or not to trust? Do you tend to trust upon meeting someone, until they prove themselves untrustworthy, or do you hold off on giving your trust to them, until they prove they deserve it? I have always, and often to my detriment, been a trusting soul. I have always … Continue reading
Fiction: Theory of Evolution
The road was dry and dusty, with barely a living thing in view, save some scrubby low level brush, and in the far distance, miles away, what appeared to be a small herd of cattle grazing on whatever scrubby grass they could find. Across the plain, mountains jutted out of the earth, with no warning. … Continue reading
